Life After Menopause
Menopause may be devastating for some women, but others find great relief after going through it. Some women may feel that they are stripped of their womanhood as their ability to reproduce is taken away, or they may also fear that it is a fast track to old age. Others may also feel great relief as they bid farewell to the hassles that PMS and monthly periods bring.
Some women experience hot flashes, constant mood swings, and other irregularities in their bodies, while others go through menopause smoothly. Every woman experiences and acknowledges menopause in a different way, but the definite thing is that it is a new phase that every woman has to go through at a certain point in time. Yes, menopause is a change of life that puts a different meaning in womanhood.
In a research called the Jubilee Women study commissioned by HRT Aware in 200 women over the age of 50, it has been found that 65% of postmenopausal women are happier and reported that their lives have improved. According to the study, all aspects in women’s lives – health, work, sex, career, relationships, travel, interests, energy, happiness – have improved after menopause. In addition, 75% of women said that they were having more fun, and 93% enjoyed more independence in making decisions. Also, most women feel that they more choices, freedom, independence, and certain privileges that they can enjoy at their age. [1]
Menopause is not an illness; it is an imminent circumstance that will occur at some point in a woman’s life. The postmenopausal stage brings about many changes in a woman’s life, but instead of looking at it the negative way, women must focus on what they can do to enjoy this change. Understanding this process of transition in a woman’s body may help one get through bodily changes with more ease. The good news is that there are many different ways to help women cope with menopause and postmenopause.
