Biopsy May Cause Erectile Dysfunction

Posted on 01. Sep, 2010 by Mark in Editor's Corner

Biopsies taken to diagnose prostate cancer commonly cause temporary erectile dysfunction and, in some cases, lingering urinary problems, according to a new study reported by Reuters Health.

According to the findings those who are undergoing prostrate biopsies and even those who are considering prostrate cancer screenings should be informed and aware of the risks. One of the facts that concern experts is that even tests for diagnosing prostrate cancer can also have side effects.

The identified causes of erectile dysfunction are:

1. Drugs
2. Neurogenic Disorders
3. Hormonal Disorders
4. Arterial Disorders
5. Venous Leak
6. Cavernosal Disorders
7. Psychological Causes
8. Surgery
9. Aging
10. Kidney failure
11. And Lifestyle

One out of 10 men already experience erectile dysfunction at some point in their lives, and with the addition of prostrate worries, as well as its side effect of ED, more research are being conducted to identify the risks of prostrate cancer treatment on men’s sexual and urinary function according to Dr. Paul Schellhamme.
